4 Months

Four Months ~ Addison is doing so great. At her 4 month appointment she weighed 15lbs and was 24 1/2" long.  She did really well after shots - much better than her 2 month shots.  She is just getting into size 6 months clothes, it's almost time to retire the 3 month clothes.  She's becoming quite the little chunk with adorable rolls, big cheeks and a little bubble butt. She's wearing size 3 diapers.  She nurses or gets pumped milk 5 times a day and then one bottle of formula (about 5-6oz).   She sleeps 10-12 hours at night which is awesome.  Girl loves her sleep!

Addison is loving going to JoAnns.  They are little buds.  They nap together and watch tv and play and laugh.       She loves watching her brother being goofy.  We got the exersaucer out for her recently and she's starting to enjoy it.  She likes sitting up in the bumbo too - especially since she can see everything going on. She rolls front to back but hasn't rolled back to front yet. She's putting everything in that little mouth of hers and starting to blow raspberries too.  Oh and soo drooly!  Aaden spit up constantly so we had a bib on him all the time - Addison has to wear a bib everyday because of her drool.  Everyone swears she's teething but we haven't seen or felt anything.

She's such an easy going baby.  She's sometimes hard up on her smiles and laughs (read cackles) though.  She'll make you work hard for them.  However, she wakes up so happy in the morning.  I look over at her in the bassinet and she gets excited and flaps her arms and kicks her legs and laughs.  It's the cutest thing.

Love, love, love her.  She's so snuggly.  She'll nudge my head sometimes just so she can cuddle up against my chest.  Oooh, I could just bite her I love her so much!

Baby Laughs

She's been trying to laugh for a few weeks but she hasn't quite gotten it down now.  It comes out kind of like a excited cough. A cackle, really.  It's hilarious.  On Jan 15th - I got her first real laugh when picking her up from Joann's.  On Jan 27th she let our her first scream.  She's finding her voice more.  And finally on Jan 29th we got a giggle belly laugh.  She thinks Aaden is sooo funny, he's the only one so far that can get her to really laugh.

2 Months

Our little girl turned 2 months old!  She has been such a joy.  And she's such a good baby.  Even on her fussy days she's so good.  I don't think we could even call it being "fussy".  She has a cute little smile that lights up her whole face.  Her eyes get squinty and her nose wrinkles up.  It's adorable.  Aaden makes her smile so easily.  He'll just be around her and goofing off and she smiles.  He doesn't even have to try.  You can tell that she loves him already - I look forward to watching their bond grow.  She is starting to coo and wow, that sound can melt the coldest of hearts.

She has already changed a lot in the last month.  Her little face has gotten soo chubby - she has a double chin and cheeks that look like they weigh her down.  She is losing her hair (I find fine little hairs on the sheet of her bassinet) but her eyelashes continue to get darker and longer.  They are beautiful.  We can't tell still who she looks like - we see a lot of both of us in her.  (We definitely know she has Aaron's chin - no arguing that one!)

At her 2 month doctor appointment, Addison weighed 11lbs8oz and was 22" long - up 3lbs and 3" from birth!  She's still in newborn clothes and size 1 diapers. She had her shots and did pretty well but was definitely fussy for the rest of the day and evening.  I had to give her Tylenol for the first time.  Poor love.  But the next day she was fine.

She has become quite the tummy sleeper.  She'll be fussing, fussing, fussing and then I turn her on her tummy, put her paci in and boom! she's out like a light.  Right now I let her nap that way on the couch in the living room because I'm there and I can keep a close eye on her.  At night though - I usually let her fall asleep on her tummy and then flip her over.  She's still a great sleeper - sleeping 5-6 hour stretches at night and then waking up to eat in the early morning and then goes back to sleep for another few hours.  She has absolutely spoiled me with letting me sleep in!

She is nursing about every 3 hours and then gets one formula bottle (4oz of Similac) at night.  After she gets her bottle and goes to sleep I pump.  I have been trying to build my freezer stash for when I go back to work.  So far I have about 50oz in there!  She is very good at going between breastmilk and formula.  She doesn't seem to have too much trouble with gas - actually she gets it out quite well and she has some STINKY farts!!  I've actually had to apologize while waiting in line at Target because she stunk it up so badly.

I'm happy to report that she likes her bath a lot more now and her and Bubby even took a bath together for the first time.  They both did well.  Aaden likes to help with her bath now and he's pretty good about not getting water on her face.  He's actually been a big help - fetching diapers, throwing diapers away, getting pacifiers, letting us know if he hears her crying, and tries to play with her.
Love her!
How cute is that smile?

One Month!

Our little girl is one month old today!!  She's an incredibly good baby.  She sleeps - A LOT.  Like 20+ hours a day and when she's awake she hardly fusses.  Seriously, she's been the easiest baby so far.  It's crazy - being on maternity leave with her feels like I'm on vacation because I get to sleep in and just lounge around.  Aaden still goes to daycare during the day so it's just me and Addison - I've been pretty lazy and honestly, it's been wonderful.  She's so kick back though that it's easy to go places with her if I need to.  I feel like I'm more relaxed this time around too - I think having less anxiety and also being a second time mom has made things so easy.

Addison gets cuter and cuter by the day.  She has long fingers and the cutest little feet with perfect little toes.  Her eyelashes are a mile long and dark.  They are beautiful and impressive!  At first I didn't think she'd have eyelashes (they were nonexistent) and then all of a sudden they just came out of no where.  Her eyes are a pretty dark blue.  I think they'll be similar to Aaden's.  She still has her little butt-chin but it seems to not be quite as prominent as she's filling out.  She has beautiful lips and she always puckers them - such a girl!

When we went to her 1 month appointment she was 8lbs8oz and 21" - up a whole pound and 2" longer.  She nurses about every 3 hours.  She gets one 3oz bottle of formula at night right around midnight.  After that she sleeps until about 5 or 6am.  I nurse her and then she goes back to sleep for another few hours.  It's awesome.  I usually swaddle her even though she kind of hates it.  She doesn't like having her arms swaddled - she likes having them up by her face.  But she sleeps better with them in because it keeps her from flailing them around which keeps her awake.  She is quite the pooper - she poops a lot and has had some projectile episodes that were - well, messy.  Impressive to say the least though!  One of the stories will surely embarrass her when she's older ;)  I think she has done some of those in revenge though because she hates diaper changes because she hates the cold.  She can't stand cold wipes and screams like a banshee when we use them in the middle of the night.  In fact, my mom bought her a wipe warmer which I thought was a crock when I had Aaden but now I see that they're pretty useful and make middle of the night changes a little easier.

Aaden is pretty good with her so far.  He always gets excited to see her and says "Hi Baby" and kisses her.  He likes to "hole-er" (hold her) but only for about 30 seconds.  He's adjusted really well, I think.  He was mad at me for a little while but I didn't take it to heart.  I just felt bad that he was angry or struggling because of the change.  But that only lasted for a couple days - he's past it now.  Sometimes he wants people to put Addison down and come play with him but I think that's normal and we're happy to give him some one on one time.  He's quite the silly little boy.  He calls Addison "Dylan".  There's a baby at daycare named Dylan so apparently he thinks that's Addie's name too.  We ask him "what's the baby's name?" and he responds with "Dy-yan" - it's so funny!  Now he knows we think it's funny so he does it just to be goofy.

At 3 weeks and 1 day she started giving little smiles to Emmy and Aaden and at 1 month and 2 days she gave me her first real smile.  It was so cute and melted my heart!!

First Weeks

Our first night home (10/16) was hell.  Of course Addison didn't sleep and I tried everything to get her to sleep.  Tried the Snuggle Nest, the bassinet, cuddling, etc.  The apnea monitor went off twice but it was when she was being moved so I didn't know if they were false alarms or not. One of the times it went off it said her heart rate was low (the machine is calibrated to go off if it's below 70) so that had me worried.  I ended up taking her off of the monitor because it was causing me some major anxiety but then I had anxiety about taking her off of it.  I didn't know what to do? We moved out to the living room at about 2 or 3am to try to sleep but that didn't work either. I was nursing her every 1/2 hour to an hour to get her to fall asleep but as soon as I would put her down and she'd wake up screaming. At 530am, I broke down and gave her some formula and then she finally fell asleep in bed with me in my arms and she slept for 4 glorious hours.

10/17
We had an appointment with our PA, Marie Spencer today. She's great - she's also a Lactation Consultant so she helped out with breastfeeding a bit. She took Addison's heart rate and it was 120 - resting. That made me feel so much better. I told her about how the monitor gave me a lot of anxiety but she suggested keeping it on for a few more nights. We were referred to a pediatric cardiologist just to have Addison checked out. It is probably over the top but just an extra precaution since we still don't know what caused the apnea. Plus we wanted to get her heart rate checked out.

I know that I'll feel better getting her checked out. I'm having so much anxiety today and just crying at the drop of a hat. I'm so worried about how tonight is going to go. I'm worried about that dang monitor and how she's going to sleep. I'm so worried about how tonight is going to go. I'm worried about that dang monitor and how or if she's going to sleep. I'm worried about how the appt is going to go. In my heart of hearts, I feel like she's fine and healthy. I honestly feel like the 85 heart rate reading in the hospital may have been inaccurate. But I don't know? We'll find more out tomorrow. On top of all this other worry, I'm also worried and feeling guilty about Aaden even though he seems to be adjusting fine.

Addison & Big Brother

10/18
Addison slept so much better last night!  She slept in her bassinet with the monitor on.  I still didn't sleep well but I was at least more rested.  Addison had her first trip out of town today - My mom, Addison and I went to San Jose to the pediatric cardiologist.  We saw Dr. Lappen.  She was so awesome.  She took our history and reviewed my pregnancy and Addison's birth.  She said she thinks that maybe Addison was a bit sedated from the Benadryl I received during labor that maybe that attributed to her apnea episode.  They did an EKG and an echo.  Both were totally normal.  Dr. Lappen said that her heart rate does drop down into the 90s but it comes back up and she's not worried at all.  She suggested that it may be a vagal reflex from her cord being wrapped around her neck and possibly having some swelling in there.  She thinks that it will slowly start to come back up over the next few weeks.  But she gave her a clean bill of health.  What a relief!!  I felt so much better after seeing her and knowing that Addison was totally healthy.

We left there and ran some errands in San Jose.  Addison got to go to her first restaurant too.  Olive Garden - yum!  She was such a good baby all day - slept most of the time.  She seems like such a kick back baby so far.  Today was such a better day - my anxiety is tons better!

Addison and I both slept great last night. She slept for 5 hours straight!!!!!! It was AWESOME. We went and saw Dr Yager today. Addison weighed 7lbs3oz. Up one ounce since being discharged. We talked to Dr Yager about how our appt went and he said he agrees with the cardiologist's assessment. He left it up to us if we wanted to continue to monitor Addison. He doesn't think it's necessary though. We decided to discontinue use because Aaron and I both feel that our little girl is healthy as can be. :)

Addison got to meet Uncle Brother and Kate today! Uncle wasn't able to come down right after she was born because he was sick. That night we walked to Knife and Fork from Emmy and Papa's house. It was her first time in the Ergo - she did great and slept the whole time. We had an earthquake that night - 5.3!

Addie had her first bath and she HATED it. She screamed pretty much the whole time. But it must have wore her out because she slept for 7 hours straight that night!!!
