Trip to Illinois

We have been trying to get back to Illinois for a few years now to go visit Aaron's grandparents.  I had never met them before therefore they had never met the kids either.  We finally bit the bullet and booked our trip and it just worked out best for us that we flew out on Easter night.  So after festivities with my family, we ran home, packed up and headed up to San Francisco to catch our 1030 flight.

We had been talking to Aaden all week about going on the airplane.
He was so excited when he finally saw our 'hairplane'
Addison was excited too but doubt she had a clue
Aaden's first time on a plane!!  He did better than I did!
Addison's first flight too :)
Both of the kids slept most of the flight there.  Once we landed, we caught a shuttle to the rental car place.  We rented a car and two carseats (yuck, those things were gross and I'm sure outdated but we didn't have much choice).  We then drove right down the road to a hotel and slept for a few hours.  We really needed some sleep.  We got up and got ready and went to a Harry Carey's for lunch and then got in the car and drove the 3 hours to Urbana.

Finally at the grandparents' house!

An added bonus to the trip - we got to meet the KKs.
Katie Frigo and her family! Mary Kate (MK) were born on the same day
(and they actually had the same due date too!)
We met up with Katie, Keith, MK and Sweet Sophia at a breakfast
joint in Chicago before our flight home.

Our flight home.  Aaden lookin' like an old pro.
The kids were much more active on the flight home but
were still really, really good.  And they both napped for a little while.
Snoozin'
Aaden loved looking out the window.  At one point he said, "I'm done flying. I want to get out" So we showed him how high we were.  He saw the clouds and asked "what's that?" We told him they were clouds and said, "I want to play with them!"  I don't think he quite grasped the idea that we were 30,000 feet off the ground!
Pointing out the plane that was coming up right on our tail!  We had to speed up and do a fly around so that the other plane could land.  A little freaky but we were alright - obviously. :)

I have to admit - I was so dreading this trip.  I was worried about flying with the kids and just the whole hustle and bustle of it.  It was such a whirlwind of a trip since we were only there for a little over 2 days but I am SOO happy that we went.  It was so great finally meeting Aaron's grandparents and having them spend time with the kids and we loved spending time with Aunt Lee and Uncle Phil.  I hope we can go back again when the kids are a little older and when we can spend a little more time there.
